March 15, 2020

Dear St. Charles School Parents and Guardians,

As we continue to navigate this national pandemic I am committed to clear communication with our families.  We know that many of you have questions on a number of issues and we are doing our best to provide you the needed answers.  I ask for your continued patience as we finalize a number of details.

How is St. Charles School making decisions? We continue to work closely with the State Health Department under the direction of the Governor’s office. We are also closely monitoring the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for updates.

How will St. Charles School communicate with families? We will continue to use our Thursday Flyer email list to send direct updates to families.  We will also post those same updates under the “News” feed on our school website. Ohio Alerts is also another way we will communicate, if necessary.

What is the impact on upcoming school events? All athletics and extracurricular activities are canceled from now until at least Friday, April 3, 2020 when we will reevaluate.  Please note that the Bid for Our Kids Auction that was scheduled for March 28th has now switched to a complete online platform. So please remember to register online (for free) to bid on the amazing class projects, silent auction baskets, main event auction items, and mystery boxes.

What will Distance Learning Look Like?  Over the next few days the St. Charles' teaching staff will be working on organizing how to best support the students’ learning needs.  Your child’s teacher will be communicating with you the expectations we have for your child so that they can continue learning at home. We also know some of our parents, especially those of young children, are uncertain as to how they should structure their child’s day while working at home and completing assignments. Our staff will be providing you with recommendations and simple, step-by-step instructions on how to access your student’s coursework.  We know there will be a learning curve for some as we transition this coming week to distance learning. We will do everything we can to assist you. Staff will be available to field your questions as we adjust to our “new normal.”

We can never replace the work our teachers do with students in our classrooms; no one expects distance learning to be as effective as what we do day-to-day in our classes. What we will be doing is designed to “keep the learning going” during this public health emergency.

Once again, I know this can be a scary time and that there will continue to be many questions that we may not have answers to yet.  Thank you for your understanding and know that we appreciate your support at home as we work together. Let’s continue in prayer for our nation and our community as we walk through this health crisis.

Yours In Christ,

Megan Scheid, Principal
