Positive Addiction Week - May 5 to May 9, 2025
St. Charles Positive Addiction Program is the school’s year-long focus on drug and alcohol prevention. We are proud to say this will be our 42nd year!
The Positive Addiction Program originated at St. Charles in 1983, by retired teachers Mary Brinkman and Diana Ireland. They received a copyright for their program and it was recognized at the White House by former first lady, Nancy Reagan.
The theme for the program was drawn from psychiatrist William Glasser’s theory of Positive Addiction. Dr. Glasser promotes the idea that wholesome addictions can be developed at a young age as opposed to negative addiction like drugs and alcohol.
Workshops are held for the junior high students focusing on self-image, relationships with others; as well as positive alternatives such as tennis, golf and dance.
